British-Nigerian defender Michael Kayode has signed a new long-term contract with Premier League side Brentford, committing his future to the club until June 2032.
The new agreement also includes an option for Brentford to extend the deal by an additional year, potentially keeping the versatile full-back at the club until 2033.
Kayode joined the Bees from Italian club Fiorentina in January 2025 on an initial loan deal, before Brentford exercised their option to make the move permanent last summer in a transfer worth €18 million.
Expressing his delight after signing the contract, the 21-year-old said he feels at home at Brentford and is eager to continue his development with the club.
“I feel like this club is a family, so I wanted to continue my journey here. I have amazing relationships that make me really like coming in for the morning to train and have fun with my team-mates, the staff and all the people around,” Kayode told the club’s official website.
“Ever since I joined the club, everything has been amazing. It feels like I’ve been playing for Brentford for 10 years. I’ve improved a lot on the pitch and outside of the pitch. That’s really important for me.”
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised the defender’s rapid progress and described the contract extension as a reward for his impressive performances.
“Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive.
“Michael’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach. We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.”
Kayode enjoyed an outstanding first full season in English football, making 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.
His performances also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, underlining his growing reputation as one of the league’s promising young defenders.
The contract extension reflects Brentford’s confidence in Kayode’s long-term potential as the club continues to build its squad around emerging young talent.
