President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of a new management team for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Commission (ICPC).
These appointments are pending Senate confirmation. Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu will serve as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the ICPC, while Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu has been appointed as the Secretary to the Commission.
The President’s decision to appoint these individuals is in line with his aim to reform key institutions and strengthen Nigeria’s fight against corruption. The new ICPC Chairman’s nomination for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate follows the outgoing chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end-of-tenure leave beginning on November 4, 2023. The outgoing chairman’s tenure is set to expire on February 3, 2024.
The appointment of Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Secretary to the Commission does not require Senate confirmation and has taken immediate effect.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the newly appointed Chairman, is known for initiating significant reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Law and was designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in October 2023.
Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, with over 30 years of legal experience, has also served commendably in the public service. He was a member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
President Tinubu has urged the new management team of the ICPC to perform their duties without fear or favor, maintaining a high standard of integrity.
Additionally, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). He will serve a term of four years, effective from January 17, 2023. The outgoing Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, has been directed to proceed on three months of pre-retirement leave, leading to his retirement on January 17, 2023.
The new Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi, will assume the role in acting capacity on October 18, 2023, and serve in a substantive capacity for a new term starting on January 17, 2023. The board of NAHCON has also been dissolved as part of these changes.
President Tinubu expects the new leadership of NAHCON to serve with utmost reverence to Allah and a strong adherence to the principles of service according to the Holy Qur’an.
