The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudy conditions and thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday, the agency predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday.
NiMet also forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain over parts of Taraba during the afternoon and evening.
For the North-Central region, the agency predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine throughout the forecast period.
In the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine, alongside chances of thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
The agency said thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain were also expected later in the day over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
For Tuesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rain expected over parts of Taraba later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine, while similar conditions are forecast for the southern region.
NiMet also predicted moderate rainfall from thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta later in the day.
On Wednesday, the agency forecast sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region and cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine over the North-Central.
The southern region is expected to remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine, with thunderstorms and moderate rain likely over parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are expected.
The agency advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving under heavy rain and disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms.
It also urged the public to stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches and trees.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
The agency further warned that temperatures would remain high in some areas, potentially causing thermal discomfort, and advised residents to wear breathable clothing, stay in well-ventilated environments and remain adequately hydrated.
