In the opening fixture of the men’s football event at the African Games 2023 in Accra, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria faced a 2-1 defeat against Uganda on Tuesday night.
The match saw Uganda take the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of a goal from Kizma Osama. However, Nigeria quickly responded with Sadiq Isiyaka scoring from a corner kick to level the score.
Despite the Flying Eagles’ efforts, Uganda managed to secure the victory with Ivan Irinimabozi netting the winning goal nine minutes from time.
In the other Group B game, Senegal emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over South Sudan.
Nigeria’s next challenge will be against South Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday as they aim to bounce back from their opening defeat.
