Tinubu Suspends Rural Electrification Agency Officials Over Financial Irregularities

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action by indefinitely suspending the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo, along with three executive directors of the agency, following revelations of financial irregularities.

The suspension was prompted by new findings uncovered during a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities of the Rural Electrification Agency. The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed that the investigation uncovered fraudulent mis-expenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion over the past two years, with some funds already recovered by anti-graft agencies.

In response, President Tinubu ordered a wider investigation into the conduct of the suspended officials. Meanwhile, he appointed a new management team to lead the Agency in acting capacity, effective immediately. The newly appointed officials are expected to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The President’s action underscores his commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring good governance and qualitative service delivery to the Nigerian people. It sends a strong message that individuals entrusted with public service must prioritize the interests of the nation above personal gain.

As Nigeria continues its journey towards development and progress, such measures are crucial to maintaining integrity and public trust in government institutions. Tinubu’s administration remains resolute in its determination to fulfill the aspirations of Nigerians for accountable and effective governance.
