President Bola Tinubu has authorized the appointment and reappointment of board chairpersons and chief executive officers for eight agencies and parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
According to presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, this decision reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s public health administration and delivering affordable, quality healthcare in line with international standards.
The appointments and reappointments are as follows:
1. National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC)
– Board Chairperson: Dr. Mansur Kabir
– Chief Executive Officer: Prof. Moji Adeyeye
2. National Blood Service Commission (NBSC)
– Board Chairperson: Prof. Abba Zubairu
– Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Saleh Yuguda
3. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)
– Board Chairperson: Prof. Afolabi Lesi
– Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Fatima Kyari
4. Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN)
– Board Chairperson: Wasilat Giwa
– Chief Executive Officer: Ibrahim Ahmed
5. Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
– Board Chairperson: Dr. Babajide Salako
– Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Tosan Erhabor
6. Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH)
– Chief Medical Director/CEO: Prof. Adamu G. Bakari
7. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH)
– Chief Medical Director/CEO: Prof. Reuben Eifediyi
Additionally, Dr. Olajide Idris has been appointed as the new Director-General/Chief Executive Officer for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) effective from February 19, 2024, in a bid to bolster the nation’s public health surveillance and security architecture.
President Tinubu emphasized the qualifications and experience of the appointees and expects them to drive his Renewed Hope Agenda in the health sector. He aims for substantial improvements in healthcare service delivery to benefit all Nigerians and stresses the importance of implementing new policy frameworks to address historical underperformance. Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, will oversee these reforms as part of the administration’s comprehensive approach to transforming the sector and enhancing national quality of life and productivity.
