Francesco Calzona, the caretaker coach of Napoli, has delivered encouraging news regarding Victor Osimhen’s status ahead of their UEFA Champions League encounter with Barcelona.
Osimhen was notably absent from Napoli’s squad during their recent Serie A fixture against Genoa last Saturday. This absence was attributed to the Nigerian striker not being deemed fit enough to participate due to a minor muscular issue and fatigue following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Calzona, who assumed the caretaker role following Walter Mazzarri’s departure, disclosed that Osimhen participated in full training on Tuesday. Despite the session not being extensive due to various obligations, Osimhen was reportedly fully engaged and working at a high tempo.
“Osimhen trained with the team, naturally it was not a long session, as we had many things to do, but he was working at full tempo,” Calzona informed the media in anticipation of the upcoming match.
Calzona further stated that all players, including Osimhen, would undergo evaluation after the subsequent training session.
Napoli is slated to host the first leg of their Champions League fixture at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday.
