In its latest report titled ‘Telecoms Data: Active Voice and Internet per State, Porting and Tariff Information (Q2 2023),’ the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that Lagos and Ogun States secured the top positions in mobile internet subscriptions in Nigeria for the second quarter of 2023.
The data disclosed a 5.40% increase, with a total of 159,498,826 active internet subscribers compared to 151,332,090 in Q2 2022.
Lagos State emerged with the highest number of active voice subscribers, reaching 26,423,757, followed by Ogun with 12,976,190 and Kano with 12,129,536.
On the internet front, Lagos maintained its lead with 18,868,376 subscribers, followed by Ogun (9,471,170) and Kano (8,768,199). In contrast, Bayelsa recorded the least number of both voice and internet subscribers.
The NBS also reported that the total number of active voice subscribers for Q3 2023 was 221,769,883, showcasing a 4.51% growth rate from the Q3 2022 figure of 212,201,578.
Furthermore, MTN secured the highest share of subscriptions in Q2 2023, dominating the market.
This data follows the trend observed in 2022 when Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory claimed the top five positions in mobile internet subscriptions, accounting for 33.52% of the total subscriptions in the country.
