In a glamorous ceremony held in Lagos on Sunday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was bestowed with the prestigious Governor of the Year award at the fifth anniversary of the PINK Awards.
The event also recognized notable figures, including Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Constituency, honored as the Philanthropist of the Year 2023.
Dr. Joe Odumakin, the promoter of the PINK Awards, explained that the acronym PINK stands for Prestige, Integrity, Nobility, and Knowledge. The awards aim to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields. Dr. Odumakin encouraged the youth in attendance to emulate the virtues exhibited by the awardees, emphasizing qualities such as simplicity, humility, courage, and resilience.
During her keynote address, Sen. Adenigba Fadahunsi, represented by Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi, expressed gratitude for the recognition and outlined his commitment to philanthropy. He highlighted his contributions to employment, empowerment, rural development, health, and education, urging fellow government officials to prioritize building the people over building the nation.
In response to the award, Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, representing Governor Makinde, emphasized that the honor would fuel increased efforts to elevate people from poverty to prosperity.
Other notable recipients included Oba Sulaimon Raji, Oniba Ekun of Iba, who received the Outstanding Traditional Institution Humanitarian Icon Award for 2023, Chidi Mokeme, named Best Actor of the Year, and Righteousman Erhabor, the acclaimed Gospel Icon of the Year. Alhaja Salawa Abeni received the Legendary Award, while Prince Adebiyi Adesina was honored with the Transformational Impact Award.
