Africa’s Largest Syringe Venture, Ceases Operations Due to Unforeseen Challenges

Date:

Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing (JSM), located in Awa, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, has officially ceased operations as of December 31, 2023, attributing the decision to “unforeseen circumstances affecting our business operations.

” The company, once hailed as the largest syringe manufacturing venture in Africa, was inaugurated in 2017 by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Despite halting production several months ago, the company confirmed the end of its operations through a memo addressed to all workers. The memo, titled “Temporary Redundancy – Service Not Needed Till Further Notice,” outlined the challenges faced by the company, expressing the necessity to implement temporary measures for the long-term sustainability of the business.

The statement assured workers that the decision to place all positions, including theirs, on temporary redundancy effective January 1, 2024, was not a reflection of individual performance but a response to the challenging business environment. The company emphasized that these difficult steps were taken to navigate the adverse conditions.

The memo concluded with a request for workers to return all company belongings in their custody, expressing gratitude for understanding and cooperation during these challenging times.
