Stakeholders in Surulere Constituency I, Lagos State, have rejected the bid of Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot to return for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, citing poor performance and limited impact during his years in office.
The coalition, operating under the Surulere Accountability Forum, said Elliot’s three terms in office had not delivered meaningful development to the constituency. They argued that his tenure had been marked by weak policy innovation, inadequate constituency projects, and insufficient response to pressing local challenges such as infrastructure decay and youth unemployment.
The group maintained that their position was not driven by personal grievances but by what they described as the need for accountable and results-driven representation. They insisted that Surulere deserves new leadership with fresh ideas capable of addressing the evolving needs of residents.
In their assessment, the stakeholders said Elliot’s legislative record over the years had not translated into visible or measurable progress for the constituency. They added that continued leadership without tangible improvements was no longer acceptable to the people they represent.
Desmond Elliot has represented Surulere Constituency I since 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his transition from a successful career in Nollywood into active politics. Over the years, he has remained a prominent political figure in Lagos State, often drawing both support and criticism from constituents and observers.
The latest opposition to his fourth-term ambition adds to the growing political tension ahead of the next election cycle, where fresh challengers are expected to contest for the seat, intensifying competition within the constituency.
