Release of Abducted FULAFIA Students Confirmed after Collaborative Security Efforts

Date:

Seven students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa State, who were abducted four days ago, have been successfully released.

The students were freed on Sunday evening through the collaborative efforts of the military and other security forces.

Ibrahim Ogabo, the President of the Student Representative Council, confirmed the release in a phone conversation with Channels Television.

The group of students, comprising three females and four males, were reported to be at the school’s clinic at the time of the report.

The abduction occurred on Wednesday night when the students were taken from their off-campus accommodation in Gandu village, prompting immediate protests by their fellow students.

Demonstrators demanded the release of their peers and called for enhanced security measures in the area.

Gandu village, a significant student hub, is closely connected to the school premises and houses over 6,000 students, particularly those in the 300 to 500 levels, as the university does not provide accommodation for them.

Unfortunately, Gandu has been a hotspot for criminal activities, including kidnappings and robberies, impacting both students and local residents. The successful release of the abducted students is a positive outcome following concerns about security in the area.
