Narrow Escape: How Herbert Wigwe’s Aide Avoided Tragic Helicopter Crash

Date:

Faleye Olushola, the Special Assistant to Herbert Wigwe, the Co-founder and Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc, narrowly escaped tragedy on Friday night as he opted out of boarding the ill-fated helicopter that claimed the lives of his boss, Wigwe, along with his wife and son.

Initial reports from Tribune Online indicated that Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and their son lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States.

However, Olushola, whose name was on the manifest, escaped the fate of the crash by a stroke of luck. He had accompanied Wigwe, his family, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), on a flight from London, UK, to Palm Springs, California, US.

Upon reaching Palm Springs, Olushola made a pivotal decision not to board the helicopter bound for Boulder City in Nevada, citing concerns about night-time weather conditions.

Instead, he chose to travel by road, a decision that ultimately spared him from the tragic air disaster that claimed the lives of four others.
