Military Task Force Rewards Personnel for Rejecting Bribe from Cattle Rustlers

Date:

The Military Special Task Force responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State announced on Tuesday that it had recognized eight personnel of Operation Safe Haven for their integrity in declining a N1.5 million bribe offered by suspected cattle rustlers in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Capt. Oya James, the spokesman for the task force, revealed that the commendable act occurred at OPSH Sector 4, where the personnel intercepted 30 rustled cows at the Bisichi checkpoint in Barkin Ladi local government area.

Capt. James detailed that the cattle, owned by Shehu Umar, were stolen in Mangu and were being transported to an undisclosed location when troops conducting a stop-and-search operation halted them.

He explained, “Upon interception, the vehicle occupants, identified as Anas Usman, aged 20, and Gyang Cholly, aged 42, immediately attempted to bribe the troops to secure passage for the stolen cattle. Despite the monetary offer, the troops refused the bribe and proceeded to apprehend the suspects, along with the bribe money.”

Major General Abubakar, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, personally commended the exemplary conduct of the personnel and awarded them a cash reward. He urged other security personnel to emulate their courage and commitment to duty.

Representing Major General Abubakar, Brigadier General M.O. Agi, the Chief of Staff of OPSH, echoed the commander’s sentiments, urging all personnel to uphold the same level of integrity and professionalism exhibited by the eight honored individuals.
