In a tragic incident on Monday, two individuals lost their lives in an auto crash on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, while four others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
Mr. Williams Manga, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Badagry, disclosed that the accident occurred at approximately 5:46 a.m. at the Ibereko section of the expressway.
According to Manga, the accident involved a Toyota Camry with dealer registration number 01-6897DLA, carrying seven individuals, including four males and three females.
The vehicle, which was reportedly traveling from a popular hotel, somersaulted multiple times on the old Badagry expressway, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
While two individuals tragically lost their lives on the spot, four others sustained injuries. The injured victims were promptly taken to the General Hospital in Badagry for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Manga attributed the likely cause of the accident to excessive speeding, emphasizing the need for motorists to adhere to speed limits and conduct routine vehicle checks to minimize such incidents.
Despite ongoing sensitization programs aimed at raising awareness among motorists, incidents of excessive speeding continue to pose a threat on the highway.
Dr. Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of the General Hospital in Badagry, confirmed the arrival of the accident victims at the hospital’s emergency unit.
He urged motorists using the Lagos-Badagry expressway to exercise caution and reduce their speed to prevent accidents, noting the hospital’s continued reception of accident victims on a daily basis.
