The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the United Nations has opened submissions for its Award for Innovation, targeting innovative individuals and institutions across the agriculture value chain.

According to Nairametrics, awardees stand a chance to win a cash prize of $10,000, alongside a commendation scroll outlining their achievements. The Award recognizes innovations in various fields including agri-food systems, digital agriculture, sustainable production practices, and novel business models, among others.

The objective of the Award is to promote effectiveness, competitiveness, resilience, and environmental sustainability in agriculture, contributing to food security, nutrition, economic growth, and natural resource management.

Entities eligible for the Award include members, institutions, individuals, international/regional organizations, academic or research entities, civil society organizations, and private sector entities, with innovations spanning technological, institutional, social, policy, and financial categories.

Criteria for the Award include impacting multiple levels of the supply chain, enhancing connections between producers and consumers, adopting innovative methods, considering sustainability dimensions, scalability, affordability, and inclusivity.

The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2024, with proposals to be submitted through FAO Representatives or Regional Representatives. Nomination forms must include an endorsement or letter of support from an FAO Representative to be considered valid. Submissions can be made electronically or via mail.
