EFCC Secures Conviction of 33 Internet Fraudsters in Oyo, Ogun States

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to combat cybercrimes, securing the conviction of 33 individuals involved in internet fraud.

The convictions were obtained through legal proceedings overseen by different judges, including Justices Ladiran Akintola, Adebukola Olajide, and M.O. Ishola of the Oyo State High Court. Justice B.B. Adebowale of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta and Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, also contributed to the convictions.

The convicted fraudsters faced charges related to cybercrimes and were handed varying prison sentences as a consequence of their actions. Among those sentenced were Amos Temitope Taiwo, Fatai Habeeb Mayowa, Lateef Aremu, Abiona Itunuoluwa Solomon, Olamijulo Abiodun Kayode, Abulele Endurance Ogbemudia, Owolade Shamsudeen Ayoola, and others.

The arrests and subsequent legal actions highlight the EFCC’s commitment to addressing cybercrimes in the Ibadan region. Operatives of the commission apprehended the 33 individuals in various locations in Oyo and Ogun states.

Further investigations revealed their involvement in different cases of internet-related crimes, leading to their prosecution.

The convictions serve as a deterrent to individuals engaging in illicit online activities, emphasizing the legal consequences that accompany cybercrimes. The EFCC’s proactive measures underscore the importance of collaborative efforts to curb financial and cyber-related offenses.
