The Akwa Ibom State Government says it has spent N879.22 billion on road and other infrastructure projects in the first three years of Governor Umo Eno’s administration. The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Briefing held at Government House, Uyo.
Ibanga said the expenditure covered 234 projects, including road construction, erosion control and intervention works, as well as 40 electrical projects across the state.
He said the projects included 1,159.63 kilometres of roads and bridges at various stages of completion, in addition to 352.83 kilometres of Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) roads being implemented with support from the World Bank in partnership with the state government.
“His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, executed and funded a total of 234 projects, rural roads, erosion control/intervention and electrical, with 40 nos.
“Bridges totalling 1,159.63km which are at various stages of completion (352.83km) RAAMP projects across the state.
“This gives us a total of 1,511.83km of roads done by the State Government presently,” Ibanga said.
The commissioner, who was flanked by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said the N879.22 billion expenditure excluded the RAAMP projects.
“The total amount spent on all these projects, both ARISE projects and inherited ones, excluding RAAMP projects, is N879.22 billion,” he said.
According to him, the ministry’s responsibilities include the design, construction and maintenance of state roads, bridges and culverts, as well as the development of electricity policies, programmes and schemes in collaboration with relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
Other areas of responsibility, he said, include the establishment and maintenance of mechanical and electrical workshops, repairs of plants and heavy-duty equipment, provision and maintenance of traffic lights and street lighting, and other electrical works across the state.
Ibanga added that the ministry also provides geotechnical and material testing services for quality control and assurance, while supervising, monitoring and evaluating government projects to ensure value for money.
Highlighting the achievements of the Eno administration in infrastructure development, the commissioner said 105 projects inherited from the previous administration had been completed, alongside 129 ARISE Finance and General Purpose Committee (FGPC) projects.
He also listed road maintenance works, 43 RAAMP projects, and reconstruction and reclamation works among the ministry’s achievements.
Ibanga disclosed that 16 road projects were awarded in 2026, adding that the state government was determined to complete them before the commencement of Governor Eno’s second term.
On revenue generation, the commissioner said the ministry was given a target of N229.55 million for 2026.
He said the ministry generated N303.61 million, representing 132.26 per cent of the target, by the end of June 2026.
According to him, the revenue was paid into the state Treasury Single Account (TSA) and came from Access Permit/Right of Way payments and the sale of unserviceable items.
Ibanga said the road projects had contributed to the development of the state and enhanced Akwa Ibom’s recognition as a destination in the South-South region.
He thanked Governor Eno for prioritising infrastructure under the ARISE Agenda and for providing budgetary releases that enabled the ministry to execute its programmes and projects across the state.
