The legal community has expressed condolences and reflected on the impact of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s contributions, particularly in the formation of the South West security outfit, Amotekun.
Lawyers shared their sentiments with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), highlighting Akeredolu’s significant roles as both the Governor of Ondo State and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Dr. Yemi Omodele, Principal Partner at Omodele Chambers, Ikeja, acknowledged Akeredolu’s efforts in governance and the legal profession. He emphasized the late governor’s instrumental role in initiating and facilitating the establishment of Amotekun, stating that the South-West Geopolitical Zone would not forget his contributions.
Mr. Chibikem Opara, a Partner at Justification Chambers, Ikeja, praised Akeredolu’s contributions to the progress of the NBA during his tenure as its president. Opara highlighted the late governor’s hardworking and meticulous nature as a lawyer, noting that he brought hope and belief to governance in Ondo State.
Opara further mentioned Akeredolu’s uprightness and his role as the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, acknowledging the impact he had in various capacities.
Mr. Bayo Akinlade, a former Chairman of NBA, Ikorodu Branch, emphasized the significant influence Akeredolu had in the legal profession. Akinlade pointed out one of Akeredolu’s legacies for the NBA, which was issuing practicing licenses in the form of identity cards to lawyers. He described the late governor as leaving behind ideas and expressed the deep sense of loss within the legal community.
As the legal community mourns Akeredolu’s passing, his multifaceted contributions to governance, legal practice, and regional security initiatives are remembered with gratitude and respect.
