Two individuals, 79-year-old Paul Idu and 47-year-old Elizabeth Amos Agbudu, natives of Igede village in Akparata, Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were reportedly beheaded early Monday morning.
Additionally, the whereabouts of 10-year-old Master Ekene Ukwo remain unknown, and three houses were razed in the attack by suspected Ezza warlords.
This incident follows a similar attack just 24 hours earlier, where two individuals were also beheaded and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
The President General of Effium Autonomous Community, Dr. James Agena, expressed grave concern over the continuous violence, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to address the “continuous killings, burning of houses, and kidnapping of innocent people by suspected Ezza warlords.”
Dr. Agena detailed the attack, stating that the invaders struck the community at 12:20 a.m., killing two people, kidnapping one, burning three houses, and injuring several others. He highlighted that this latest attack marks the third coordinated assault on Effium natives by Ezza warriors within a week.
He lamented the lack of an official statement from the government condemning these incessant attacks and called for immediate intervention from state and federal authorities to protect the peace-loving Effium natives.
In an open letter, Dr. Agena urged the government to recognize and address the agenda of the Ezza people, which he described as an attempt to derail the peace process and continue an ethnic cleansing agenda.
The Ebonyi State police spokesperson, Ukandu Joshua, confirmed the attack.
