Burna Boy Lights Up 66th Grammy Awards with Electrifying Performance

Date:

Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Burna Boy stole the spotlight at the 66th Grammy Awards held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night, February 4th.

The Recording Academy CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., introduced Burna Boy as the “superstar from Nigeria.”

Burna Boy’s performance began with “On Form,” a high-energy track that captivated the audience and set the tone for an unforgettable performance. Surrounded by his entourage, the artist seamlessly transitioned into “City Boys,” further igniting the stage with his presence.

A standout moment of the performance came when Burna Boy welcomed 12-time Grammy nominee Brandy to join him on stage for their collaboration, “Sittin’ on Top of the World.” The track, which samples Brandy’s 1998 hit “Top of the World” featuring Mase, also features acclaimed rapper 21 Savage, who was also nominated for five awards at the ceremony.

Released on June 1, 2023, as the lead single from Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, “I Told Them…,” “Sittin’ on Top of the World” made waves on the charts, reaching No. 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at No. 2 on Rhythmic Airplay. The album itself enjoyed success, reaching No. 31 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on World Albums chart.

Burna Boy entered the Grammy Awards with four nominations, including Best African Music Performance for “City Boys,” Best Global Music Album for “I Told Them…,” Best Global Music Performance for “Alone,” and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Sittin’ on Top of the World” with 21 Savage. While Burna Boy didn’t secure additional wins this year, his impact extends far beyond awards, with his groundbreaking contributions to music recognized globally.
