Ogun Govt Condemns Portable’s Attack on Officials, Vows Legal Action

Date:

The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for his actions against officials of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority.

Government officials were reportedly attacked at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Sango Ota while carrying out their lawful duties.

In a statement on Friday, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who has repeatedly assaulted government officials without provocation. He called the recent attack “barbaric and unacceptable,” stating that the government would take legal action.

Akinmade also noted that Portable’s behavior has become disruptive and intolerable, causing panic in the area. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining order and upholding the values of decency in the state.

“The way Portable and his accomplices attacked officials of OGPDPA is disgraceful and a clear erosion of the Omoluabi ethos,” he said. “Governor Abiodun condemns this uncivil act and is committed to ensuring that anyone violating the law, regardless of status, faces justice.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arraigned nine of Portable’s associates before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta. They were charged with felony, assault, unlawful possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The accused, identified as Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Samuel Adeleke, 28; Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Fatimo Muhammed, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
