The Premier League has officially approved Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 percent stake in Manchester United, along with a further investment of $300 million in the club.
The move comes after an independent review and completion of the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT).
An official statement from the Premier League reads: “Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of 25 per cent of Manchester United FC, and further investment of $300 million in the club, has been approved by the Premier League Board following the completion of the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT).”
The approval was granted by an Independent Oversight Panel after the Premier League Board agreed to the change in the club’s ownership structure. This marks the first acquisition of control to be reviewed and approved by the new Independent Oversight Panel, following changes to the process agreed by Premier League clubs in March 2023.
The completion of the deal is expected next week, pending approval from the Football Association (FA).
