Idah Peterside, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper and media officer, has cautioned Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, against returning to South Africa.
This warning comes after Nwabali’s standout performance in the semifinal match against South Africa, where he saved two penalties, helping Nigeria secure a spot in the final.
In a viral video shared on X, Peterside expressed concern over messages threatening Nwabali’s safety.
He disclosed, “We have received messages where people are sending threats to the goalkeeper. I heard some people were telling him, ‘don’t come back to South Africa since you don’t want us to score payback when your team is playing.'”
Peterside emphasized that such threats are unacceptable and called for an end to the intimidation faced by Nwabali and others.
