Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, remains optimistic about his team’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League despite their recent setback.
Following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League, United find themselves in sixth place with 44 points after 27 matches, with a goal difference of -2.
Sitting ahead of United in the league table are Liverpool (63), Manchester City (62), Arsenal (58), Aston Villa (55), and Tottenham (50). Despite the gap, Ten Hag believes that a top-five finish is still within reach, especially with UEFA expanding the Champions League next season.
In a press conference, Ten Hag stated, “Number five [fifth position in the league] can also be a position for the Champions League, so we have to fight for it.” This statement reflects the manager’s determination to push his team to secure a higher position in the league standings and secure Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.
