Italian pundit Gabriele Marcotti has criticized Super Eagles players Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze for their missed opportunities during Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash with Equatorial Guinea.
Marcotti expressed disappointment that both players failed to convert their chances, suggesting that they could have scored three goals each in the match.
During the game against Equatorial Guinea, Osimhen missed at least two good chances to score, contributing to the 1-1 draw.
Marcotti, speaking on ESPN’s The Gab & Juls Show, highlighted the missed opportunities, stating that Nigeria had several chances to secure a victory.
While acknowledging that people have doubts about Nigeria, Marcotti expressed hope that the team would perform better in the next game.
Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea currently have one point each and are behind the leaders, Ivory Coast, in the AFCON standings.
The criticism from Marcotti comes as Nigeria prepares for its upcoming AFCON clash against Ivory Coast, where the team will aim to secure a better result and improve its standing in the tournament.
