The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his victory in the Supreme Court over his presidential election rivals.
Speaker Abbas emphasized that President Tinubu’s triumph was not just a win for him and the All Progressives Congress, but a victory for all Nigerians. The Supreme Court’s dismissal of appeals from the opposition, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, and their respective candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, marked a significant moment in legal jurisprudence in Nigeria, according to the Speaker.
In his statement, Speaker Abbas lauded the judiciary as the last refuge of the common man and highlighted that this Supreme Court decision further bolsters the rule of law in the country. He expressed the hope that the opposition, having exhausted their constitutional rights to contest the electoral results up to the highest court, would collaborate with President Tinubu to address the pressing socio-economic and security challenges facing Nigerians. The Speaker assured that the House, under his leadership, is ready to legislatively support the President’s administration in its mission to enhance the lives of the citizens, ensure security, and create a conducive business environment.
In a related statement by Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Kalu also celebrated President Tinubu’s Supreme Court victory. Deputy Speaker Kalu recognized the opposition’s courage in seeking legal recourse and urged them to now align with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to improve the well-being of the people. He praised the judiciary for upholding the integrity of the judicial system and underscored the importance of unity and shared responsibility in moving the nation forward following this triumph of democracy in Nigeria.
