Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Declares Candidacy for Edo Governorship in 2024

Date:

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2020 Edo state election, has officially announced his intention to run for the governorship seat in the 2024 race.

Making the declaration at the state party secretariat in Benin City on December 27, Ize-Iyamu, who previously contested twice for the Edo governorship, highlighted the need for a change in the state.

During a meeting with APC’s state executive members, Ize-Iyamu expressed concerns about what he described as years of governance characterized by propaganda and falsehood.

He emphasized the importance of steering Edo state away from what he termed as “parlousness, insincere governance, and rudderlessness.”

He stated, “For over seven years, Edo people have had to endure governance by propaganda and falsehood, and the use of government institutions for the purpose of personal vendetta and the oppression of her citizens.”

Meanwhile, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, revealed that he has not received a six-month allowance due to political tensions between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Despite this, Shaibu affirmed his commitment to his duties, stating that he relies on goodwill and contributions from friends to carry out his responsibilities.

He also expressed gratitude to journalists, citing a past investigative report that helped save him from incarceration during the regime of the late Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.

Shaibu emphasized that strengthening institutions in Edo is a top priority for him, and he has made significant sacrifices to ensure the state functions effectively.
