The trial of Senator Stella Oduah, Chinese construction company CCECC, and other defendants on alleged N5 billion fraud charges has been rescheduled by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The trial, originally scheduled for today, could not proceed as planned.
Despite the presence of counsel representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the defendants, including Senator Oduah, were not in court. The matter is now set for November 14.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the case, had previously ordered the EFCC to produce individuals involved in breaching his privacy through text messages and those who petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria regarding the ongoing case. In doing so, the judge expressed concern about the interference in the proceedings.
Senator Oduah and other defendants were arraigned on July 21 on a 25-count charge. The charges revolve around allegations of money laundering, with the defendants accused of laundering various sums of money totaling about N5,052,415,984 between February and June 2014.
The case will continue in November, pending the appearance of the defendants and further proceedings.
