Supreme Court Tightens Security as PDP and Atiku Challenge Presidential Election Verdict

Date:

Security has been ramped up at the Supreme Court in Abuja as it prepares to hear the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Their appeal challenges the verdict of the presidential election petition court, which upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Security forces from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have been stationed at the court to maintain order and ensure safety.

The appellants allege that the last presidential election was tainted by irregularities and are urging the Supreme Court to overturn the decision of the presidential election petition court, declaring Atiku Abubakar the winner of the election.

It’s worth noting that the former Vice President has submitted an application to the court, seeking permission to present evidence from Chicago State University as part of his appeal against the election tribunal’s ruling, which favored President Tinubu.

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver its judgment on the appeals by November 6, 2023.
