The arrest of 65-year-old clergyman Timothy Adedibu in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, for allegedly luring a nine-year-old girl into his apartment and having carnal knowledge of her has sparked outrage and condemnation.
Adedibu, believed to be the leader of a church in the community, committed the crime on February 15, 2024. The survivor’s uncle raised an alarm, leading to Adedibu’s arrest.
The Ogun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation was ongoing.
The survivor was issued forms for medical examination and treatment, and all parties involved would be transferred to headquarters for further investigation.
In a similar development, another suspect named Prince Dara was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl in Abolaniyi Street, Idorawa, via Idi-Oke.
The incident occurred on February 8, 2024, when Dara reportedly raped the minor after luring her into his house, threatening her with a knife, and seizing her bag containing personal belongings.
The police mobilized surveillance teams to the scene, and Dara was apprehended for questioning.
Reacting to the incidents of defilement, legal practitioner and human rights lawyer Collins Aigbogun emphasized that anyone found guilty of defilement risked life imprisonment.
He clarified that defilement is a felony, not just a constitutional issue, and perpetrators face severe legal consequences upon conviction. Aigbogun’s statement underscores the gravity of the crime and the need for swift justice to protect minors from such heinous acts.
