The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has launched an investigation into the alleged attack on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Sunday.
According to the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Mr. Haruna Garba, preliminary findings suggest that the alleged attack resulted from an altercation between military personnel at a checkpoint and the governor’s motorcade.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, had earlier claimed that there was an assassination attempt on Governor Bello, a few kilometers away from Abuja. Fanwo stated that the governor was en route to an official engagement from Lokoja when the attack occurred. The attackers were reported to be dressed in military uniforms.
It was noted that the crisis unfolded after the governor’s motorcade refused to stop at the military checkpoint. Further investigation will be conducted to ascertain the details of the incident.
This incident has raised concerns and further investigations are required to clarify the situation.
