Muslim leaders from across Nigeria, convened under the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), emphasized the need for the federal government to prioritize addressing hunger and insecurity in the country.
Prominent figures including Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar and Special Adviser to the Vice President Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed gathered in Kaduna to discuss the nation’s pressing issues.
The council raised concerns over the massive expenditure on security and power sectors without yielding commensurate results.
President of the council, Sheikh Abdurrasheed Hadiytullah, highlighted the detrimental impact of corruption on governance and emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable for their actions.
They called upon the government to reevaluate economic policies and cautioned against plans to abolish subsidies and commercialize public agencies without providing adequate social safety nets for the population.
Additionally, the leaders urged for peaceful dialogue and engagement with the government to address grievances rather than resorting to violence. They emphasized the importance of promoting harmony and stability in society, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.
In response, Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar highlighted the government’s efforts to deploy technology in combating security challenges. He urged Islamic scholars to use Ramadan sermons to pray for the government’s success and Nigeria’s development.
