The Lagos State Government has announced its intention to arraign 14 Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel before a disciplinary panel for allegations of extortion and high-handedness.
The disciplinary action is in compliance with the established state rules and regulations.
According to the statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department on behalf of the General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the affected personnel consist of 11 senior and three junior LASTMA officers. These individuals were reportedly caught extorting money from motorists at various locations across the state.
Their cases have been referred to the Public Service Staff Disciplinary and Appeals Board (P.M.B.), where they will face disciplinary charges. The agency is committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining the integrity of its personnel. Oreagba, in collaboration with the state government, intends to impose strict penalties on officers found guilty of misconduct, thereby cleansing the agency of any negative elements that tarnish its reputation.
Oreagba urged residents, especially motorists, to assist by promptly reporting any errant officers at the nearest LASTMA offices or through the agency’s complaints hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515, and 08129928597) with supporting evidence.
The General Manager encouraged all LASTMA officers to perform their duties in compliance with established laws and regulations. Those who engage in activities that discredit the agency or the government will face appropriate consequences.
While appreciating LASTMA officials for their dedication and professionalism, Oreagba cautioned the motoring public against offering bribes to traffic personnel, emphasizing that both the giver and receiver can face legal consequences, as such actions are prohibited by law.
