The Lagos State Government has decided to reopen the Alaba Rago Market in Ojo, which was temporarily closed last week due to serious environmental violations.
The reopening comes after the market management met the prescribed sanitation compliance conditions.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the importance of cleanliness and environmental standards in all markets to create a cleaner and more habitable environment in the state.
The reopening of Alaba Rago Market serves as a reminder to all market stakeholders to prioritize sanitation. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), highlighted the necessity for cooperation between market authorities, traders, and relevant government agencies to maintain a clean and healthy market environment, reinforcing the government’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.
