Judgement Reserved in Suit Against Lagos Cosmetic Surgeon Anuoluwapo Adepoju

Date:

The Federal High Court in Lagos has deferred the judgement in the case against popular Lagos cosmetic surgeon, Anuoluwapo Adepoju, and her clinic, MedContour Services Ltd.

Adepoju is facing a five-count charge related to her refusal to attend an investigation into post-body surgery complications and the failure to produce investigation documents.

Initially arraigned on July 17, 2020, Adepoju pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is prosecuting the case.

The trial commenced, with the prosecution presenting several witnesses and closing its case.

Adepoju’s defence filed a no-case submission, asserting that the prosecution failed to establish a case against her. However, this submission was rejected by Justice Mohammed Liman on April 7, 2022.

The court ordered Adepoju to open her defence, and the case has faced several adjournments. The defence began presenting its case on May 5, 2023, with Adepoju being the sole witness.

After cross-examination, the case was adjourned multiple times, and the adoption of written addresses took place virtually on November 20, 2023.

Originally scheduled for January 23, 2024, the judgement date was postponed, and a new date will be communicated to the parties involved.

In the charges against Adepoju, the prosecution alleges that she failed to appear before the FCCPC for an investigation into a reported failed buttock enlargement surgery.

Additionally, she is accused of refusing to produce required documents and obstructing the commission’s investigation. The charges are said to contravene provisions of the FCCPC Act, 2018.
