Governor Makinde Signs Executive Order on Safe Handling of Harmful Substances

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has taken decisive action by signing Executive Order 001 of 2024, aimed at ensuring the safe handling of harmful substances within the state.

The signing of the executive order follows a recent incident in Ibadan where explosives detonated, causing alarm and concern within the community.

During the signing ceremony, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of the order in safeguarding lives and property, declaring that the state now has a comprehensive law in place to regulate the handling and storage of harmful substances.

The governor reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing a recurrence of such incidents, stating that structural integrity tests on buildings surrounding the explosion site have been completed.

Governor Makinde further emphasized the responsibility of individuals and companies to notify the state government of any harmful substances stored in residential areas. He highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in handling such materials to mitigate risks to public safety.

Under the executive order, it is mandatory for individuals or entities in possession of harmful substances to inform the state government, ensuring proactive measures are taken to prevent potential hazards.

Governor Makinde concluded by affirming the government’s dedication to implementing necessary measures to protect the well-being of residents, emphasizing that compliance with the executive order is essential for the safety and security of all citizens in Oyo State.
