In the ongoing trial of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, a forensic document examiner with the EFCC, Bamaiyi Mairiga, testified in an FCT high court, alleging forgery of former President Buhari and ex-SGF Mustapha’s signatures.
The testimony revealed that $6.2 million was allegedly stolen from the CBN under Emefiele’s leadership, purportedly through forged documents.
Mairiga, as the sixth prosecution witness, detailed the analysis process, concluding that the signatures on the disputed document showed evidence of forgery and copy acts.
He further testified that the author of the specimen signatures did not write the signatures of Buhari and Mustapha on the disputed document, leading to the conclusion of forgery.
The defence raised objections regarding the witness’s demeanor, accusing him of deliberately refusing to answer questions, but the prosecution defended Mairiga’s credibility.
The court adjourned the hearing to March 11, awaiting further proceedings in the case.
