The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that its operatives stormed the residence of popular Nigerian singer John Njeng-Ngeng, known as Skales, to arrest two suspected internet fraudsters.
The incident occurred at House F10, Victoria Crest 4, Lekki, Lagos.
In a statement by the acting spokesman of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, it was revealed that the arrest was carried out by the Lagos Command’s operatives on Tuesday, October 10, at the musician’s residence.
The two suspects identified as Udemba Chukwuemeka (alias Jody) and Jamal Jamiu Onasola (alias Jamal) were apprehended on suspicion of being involved in a dating scam, and they reportedly referred to Skales as their “mentor.” Chukwuemeka had been residing at Skales’ home for two years, while Onasola had only been there for a few months, according to Oyewale.
Oyewale further stated that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded.
Previously, when Skales alleged that EFCC officials invaded his home with guns and hammers, the commission had dismissed the claims as unfounded. Skales had reported, “So #officialEFCC pulled up to my house with 3 men with guns and some with sticks and hammers lol, they broke my back door while I was sleeping on the bed with my 6-month-old daughter, imagine I had a panic attack because of my health issues… Is this not a crime?”
Oyewale clarified that the EFCC does not conduct invasions or raids, and there are established protocols for identifying genuine EFCC operatives. He suggested that the incident might involve impersonators of the EFCC.
He called on Skales to provide evidence of his claims, stating, “And I will want him to come forward, if he has photo evidence or video evidence, to show that it’s an EFCC thing because we don’t have such things.”
