The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed Airport Command (MMAC), has announced the generation of N90.43 billion in customs duty and other charges for the year 2023.
Comptroller Muhammed Yusuf, the Area Controller, revealed this information during a news conference in Lagos. He stated that the revenue marked a significant increase of N20.66 billion compared to the previous year, depicting a 29.61% rise in collection.
Comptroller Yusuf highlighted the role of officers’ resilience in ensuring proper declarations and adherence to import/export guidelines, contributing to the successful revenue collection.
The command has been given a target of N144 billion for the year 2024, emphasizing the need to address any leakages through technology.
The customs boss, Yusuf, noted that the command had made ten seizures during the period, including tramadol, military camouflage jackets, military hardware, counterfeit medicaments, dried shark fins, and dried donkey genitals, with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N47.21 billion.
These seizures were made due to various infractions such as false declarations and non-compliance with regulations.
Yusuf appreciated the collaboration with critical stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration. He urged officers and men of the command to remain focused and steadfast in discharging their responsibilities.
