The case brought forward by the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has seen further proceedings adjourned to November 17, 2023.
This decision was reached after extensive arguments from counsel to the involved parties regarding the implications of an appeal filed by the Ondo State House of Assembly against the pending court orders.
It came to light that on October 20, 2023, the Ondo State House of Assembly initiated an appeal process in the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division. This move impacted the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court and was a significant factor in the proceedings.
The plaintiff’s counsel argued that the House of Assembly’s appeal was closely tied to the Federal High Court’s jurisdiction and the court orders granted on September 25, 2023. As such, it was suggested that the Federal High Court should defer to the Court of Appeal.
In response, the defendants contended that the House of Assembly’s appeal was filed beyond the stipulated time frame and had not been formally processed by the Court of Appeal.
The court decided to adjourn the case to November 17, 2023, where a ruling will be made on the matter.
