Abuja, Port-Harcourt Residents Face Blackout as a Result of Technical Fault in Power Transformer

Date:

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, are currently experiencing a blackout due to technical issues reported by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC).

The problem is attributed to a significant fault in a 15 MVA, 33/11kV power transformer at the M44 Charley Boy Injection Substation.

Areas directly affected by this technical glitch include Gwarimpa, Roads 63, 64, 69, Iya Kasuwa, Adkan Estate Gwarimpa, and nearby regions.

According to the AEDC management, the repair work on the transformer is expected to extend until January 22, 2024, owing to the comprehensive nature of the required repairs.

The AEDC has issued a statement expressing regret and seeking understanding from its customers. The statement assures customers that the engineering team is working diligently to restore power to the affected areas.

It reads, “We appeal for your understanding as our team of engineers is working tirelessly to achieve the restoration of the supply of electricity to these areas. We regret any inconvenience caused.”

In a related development, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has also informed customers in the Rivers State capital about a power outage resulting from a loss of supply from the Afam 132KV line.

The outage is necessary to facilitate the repair of a faulty conductor wire at the Port Harcourt Town Transmission Station, impacting areas such as Port Harcourt Town, PH Main, and Rumuosi Transmission Stations.

PHED customers have been assured that power supply will be reinstated promptly once the repair work is completed.
