The World Bank estimates that enhanced access to internet coverage in Nigeria and Tanzania over three years has contributed to a seven per cent reduction in extreme poverty.
According to a brief titled “Digital transformation drives development in Africa,” this exposure to internet connectivity has also led to an increase of 8 per cent in labour force participation and wage employment.
The World Bank emphasizes the significant impact of digital transformation on economic growth, innovation, and job opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.
The brief calls attention to the gap between internet coverage and usage, highlighting the untapped potential for inclusive growth in the region.
