A wanted criminal in Kano, Abba Barakita, has turned himself in to the police authorities, marking a significant development in law enforcement efforts.
The Kano State Police command confirmed this positive development in a statement released on Thursday evening, indicating that Barakita was among 40 other individuals involved in thuggery who decided to abandon their criminal activities and cooperate with the police.
The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, shared that not only had Abba Barakita demonstrated genuine remorse, but he had also successfully persuaded 40 of his associates to follow suit and surrender to the authorities. Remarkably, the group of repentant thugs voluntarily handed over their weapons to the police.
In light of this unprecedented occurrence, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has directed that the newly reformed individuals be thoroughly profiled and provided an opportunity for rehabilitation.
It is important to note that the Kano State Police Command had previously declared Abba Barakita and two other individuals as wanted criminals in August 2023. The two other wanted individuals include Nasir Abdullahi, also known as Chile Maidoki of Layin Falwaya Kurna Makabarta Quarters, and Hantar Daba of Kwanar Disu. Nasir Abdullahi had already surrendered himself to the police, leaving Abba Barakita as the remaining key figure to make this remarkable choice.
Abba Barakita officially surrendered to the police on Thursday, publicly announcing his repentance from criminal activities. His decision and the subsequent voluntary surrender of his associates represent a significant step toward improving security and community safety in Kano.
