Suleimon Lawal was arraigned before an Ikeja High Court on Monday on charges of armed robbery and unlawful association.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.
The Lagos State counsel, Mrs. B. Ojukutu-Shobande, presented the case, alleging that Lawal committed the offenses on October 5, 2022, and September 5, 2022, at Jetty Waterside, Bayeku, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to the prosecution, the defendant used an iron chair to rob Ms. Karimat Olugowora of an iPhone XR valued at N180,000.
Furthermore, Ojukutu-Shobande informed the court that, on September 5, 2022, it was discovered that Lawal belonged to an unlawful association known as Aiye confraternity. The prosecution argued that these actions contravened Section 297 (2) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 2 (3) of the Unlawful Society and Cultism (Prohibition) Law of Lagos State, 2021.
Justice Adenike Coker remanded the defendant in a correctional center and scheduled the trial to commence on February 12.
