Former Soldier, Printer Arrested for Producing Fake Currencies in Lagos

Date:

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has apprehended a couple, a former soldier, and a printer for their alleged involvement in the production of counterfeit currencies.

Parading the suspects, including the couple aged 50 and 46, at the command’s headquarters on Friday, the Zonal Public Relations Officer, Tunni Ayuba, revealed that the arrest of the printer led to the apprehension of the couple and the former soldier.

Ayuba explained that on February 3, a team from the command invaded the hideout of the printer on Lagos Island and arrested him based on an intelligence report approved by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi.

During the operation, the police seized a printing machine allegedly used by the printer for printing security threads on counterfeit currencies. They also recovered a sum of 300 million CFA and N9 million, both suspected to be counterfeit, from the printer.

The printer confessed to his involvement in currency counterfeiting for over three years and disclosed the individuals he supplied fake currencies to, leading to the arrest of the couple, who were partners in the crime.

Further investigations based on the couple’s confessions led to the arrest of the former soldier. Upon searching his house, the police found him in possession of suspected counterfeit local and foreign currencies.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are currently at large.
