Fayose Received N1.2bn from Sambo Dasuki’s Office, EFCC Operative Tells Court

Date:

A prosecution witness in the trial of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, revealed that the sum of N1,219,000,000 received by Fayose from former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, came from the imprest accounts domiciled in the office of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

This information emerged during the trial where Fayose and Spotless Investment Limited faced 11-count charges of money laundering and stealing totaling N6.9 billion.

Madaki, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), gave detailed information about the investigations into the funds Fayose received, including the source and movement of the money. The witness also pointed out that the funds Fayose received were not campaign funds from his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as claimed by the defendant.

The former governor allegedly used some of the funds to purchase a property worth N270 million and deposited N100 million in a fixed account. The witness also mentioned that significant cash sums were deposited into the bank account of Spotless Investment Limited, and neither Fayose nor his aide, Biodun Agbele, could explain the source of these funds.

The case is scheduled to continue on November 24, 2023, as Fayose and Spotless Investment Limited face allegations of corruption.
