Adamawa Police Commissioner Condemns Clash Between Police and Military, Orders Investigation

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Afolabi Babatola, has expressed condemnation for the recent clash between police and military officers in Yola, the state capital.

The clash, occurring on Tuesday night, resulted in the tragic death of Police Inspector Jacob Daniel.

In a statement, CP Babatola deemed the incident “unfortunate” and “regrettable.” He promptly ordered an immediate investigation into the matter, emphasizing the importance of ensuring peace and justice prevail. The CP warned against any attacks on security officers in the line of duty, asserting that such actions would no longer be tolerated.

Emphasizing the sanctity of the lives of all security personnel, CP Babatola declared that unwarranted conflicts would be strictly addressed in accordance with existing laws. He underscored the commitment of the Command to the protection of lives and property, calling for collaboration among sister security agencies to safeguard the fundamental rights of security operatives.

The police commissioner appealed for calm, assuring the public that the top management of both security agencies is diligently working to address the situation. Reports indicate that the clash involved a late-night attack by troops of the Nigerian Army on the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Adamawa State, with eyewitnesses describing the use of a military armored carrier and heavy gunfire during the incident.
