The Rescue Team from the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has successfully located and rehabilitated a female American citizen who was discovered wandering in the Ijegun area of the state.
The woman’s rescue unfolded after a reporter, responding to a distress call placed to the state government’s emergency toll-free line, found the American national in the area, as detailed in an official statement released on Monday.
Commissioner Mobolaji Ogunlende of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development commented on the incident, noting that the rescued woman exhibited signs of distress and incoherence. As a result, she was promptly transferred to the Lagos State Rehabilitation Home, Majidun, to receive the necessary treatment and rehabilitation.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu of the ministry added, “We were deeply moved by the woman’s plight, and given that our ministry is tasked with providing assistance to the vulnerable and in need, we wasted no time in responding. Every life holds significant value to us, as social welfare is at the core of our statutory duties.”
Meanwhile, representatives John Simmon and Charles Adeyemi from the Supervisory Consular Services at the United States Embassy in Lagos visited Mrs. Oke-Osanyintolu at Alausa on Monday to formally request the release of the woman, who is set to be repatriated to the United States for reunification with her family, according to the statement.
Simmon commended the ministry for its swift response and successful rescue, stating, “It’s difficult to predict what might have happened if the ministry hadn’t taken immediate action upon receiving the information. Once again, the commendable efforts invested in this rescue mission highlight your commitment to valuing every life within the state, irrespective of nationality.”
