Burna Boy and Davido Lead 2025 AFRIMA Nominations with Five Each

The 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced their nominees, with Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Davido leading the field, each receiving five nominations. Burna Boy’s album No Sign of Weakness and Davido’s 5ive are both nominated for Album of the Year. Their hit singles have also earned spots in the Song of the Year and Best Collaboration categories.

Other top nominees include South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa and Morocco’s El Grande Toto, who also secured five nominations each, including nods for Best African DJ and Album of the Year. Senegal’s Mia Guissé and Ghana’s Moliy matched this feat, highlighting the increasing prominence of female artists in Africa’s music industry.

Nigerian street-pop sensation Shallipopi received four nominations, including Artiste of the Year, while Egypt’s Amr Diab, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Tyla, and Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles also received four nominations each. Rising Nigerian stars Rema and Ayra Starr received three nominations, with Ayra Starr competing in the Artiste of the Year category.

The AFRIMA nominations also feature strong representation from the African diaspora, including artists such as Aya Nakamura, DJ Snake, Darkoo, Faouzia, Gazo, and WizTheMC. The competition is expected to be intense, bringing together Africa’s top music talents.

The 2025 AFRIMA awards ceremony is scheduled for November, with winners to be determined through a combination of public voting and the assessment of a 13-member international jury. The event aims to celebrate the diversity and excellence of musical talent across Africa and its diaspora.
